Who Will Make It In The NFL Playoffs 2000?

Love and Basketball

By: Eugene L. Cherry, 6th grade, Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, December 13, 2000, I went to the Air and Space Museum with my friends and my computer teachers. When I got there I saw a sports documentary on Michael Jordan. Mr. Jordan talked about his love for basketball, his relationship with his father, and how his father encouraged him to do his best while playing baseball. Michael Jordan's father said to try your best in everything and to not give up if you at first do not succeed. What I remember most about the film is how Michael Jordan's dad came to every single game that he played in, especially the championship game (because most dads do not come to every game you have!). This is important to me because Michael Jordan was the best player in the NBA and he inspires me to go for it and to be the best player that I can be on the court!

It's Bowl Season In Local High School Football

High School Rivals Meet

Dunbar vs Balou
Eastern vs Roosevelt

First Round

On November sixth I went to the Eastern versus Dunbar game at Dunbar High School. This was the second time that these two teams challenged each other. Those who scored winning points were T. Jones with two touchdowns and D. Watson with an interception and then ran back for a touchdown. Jay Green scored with two touchdowns, one kick return and one reception for 90 yards. At the end of the game, the Eastern Ramblers were on the Dunbar ten yard line with the score tied at 14. Then, the coach made the most stupid call in the world (in my opinion!), and the quarter back fumbled. Dunbar won by six points. The final score: 20 to 14.

Second Round

On the fourth of November, the Roosevelt Tigers came face to face with the Balou Jaguars. Theose who scored points were S. Smith, with a 20 yard touchdown pass to A Wells. The score remained the same during the second and third quarter, because no touchdowns were made. Then, in the fourth quarter it was hardcore. Roosevelt brought on the heat. But its offense couldn't put up any points, so the score remained in favor of Balou, six to nothing.

Turkey Bowl

On the 24th of November, Dunbar and Balou met each other on the green at Eastern field. Scoring points in the first quarter were T. Jones who ran the touchdown for Dunbar and M. Gasaway, who scored a 19 yard reception for Balou. The score was six to six. During the second quarter R. Rodney threw a 70 yard pass to T. Thompson for Dunbar and the score was now twelve to six. Dunbar dominated Balou in the third quarter and the score didn't change in the fourth quarter. Dunbar won the Turkey Bowl with a blow out score of 18 to 6.

Who Will Make It In The NFL Playoffs 2000?

By J.D. Stephens, Sixth grade, Washington, D.C.

The Superbowl isn't until January! Until then, if defense wins championships, which team will be this year's champs?

    St Louis Rams
    Denver Broncos
    Minnesota Vikings
    Pittsburgh Steelers
    Oakland Raiders
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    Indiana Colt
    Philadelphia Eagles
    New Orleans Saints
    New York Giants

The NFL playoffs are when teams play to determine who will make it to the ultimate championship game. After all the teams have played, two will remain, and will play for the championship. In my opinion, the above teams listed are some of the best teams. They have worked really hard to get to the playoffs, especially, the Eagles, Colts, Tampa Bay, and Denver. I think that Saint Louis will make it to the Super Bowl because last season they went all the way and won. Will Denver make it this season? I really don't know yet because yesterday they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. I am not sure about the Minnesota Vikings and, since the Green Bay packers are in the playoffs it is my guess that they may not be able to hold their ground in the playoffs. About the Steelers, their season has been bad. I think they are up and coming. Well, I don't have much to say about the Raiders right now except that I think they need to start beating up on the big teams instead of just the small teams. I think Tampa Bay, has a really nice defense but their offense is bad. I think Adrian James has worked out wonderfully for the Colts so he may carry them to the final four. New Orleans has this great new quarter back but I don't think they will make it into the playoffs for another two years. The Giants have won their division and are unstoppable. Lastly, I think that the Philadelphia Eagles will go all the way to the Super Bowl. I can't wait to see all of these terrific teams go head on and see which team will be this year's champs.
