Coin Machine Blues
By: Sean Cherry, 8th grade, Washington, D.C.
On October third of the year 2000, I went to Safeway, located on 15th street North East, to use their coin machine. I put in twelve dollars and I didn't get the right amount of change back. What I received was ten dollars and two cents. The result of this problem was that I didn't get the right amount of money back; therefore I didn't have the required amount of money tax to buy my shoes. As a result of this I will never go to another coin machine inside Safeway.

Quiet All Day, We Need To Talk!
By: Keonia Hall, 8th grade, Washington, D.C.
On the first day of December, 2000, there were a couple of teenagers on a public bus minding their own business. They were talking and laughing about their day. Then, an elderly senior told them to be quiet in a harsh, rude tone of voice (as if she were their mother!). She acted like they were criminals and, as if they had just committed a crime. I think that they should be able to talk as freely as they choose. With the many school rules already a part of their day, they never get to talk in school. So, I think that they should be able to release tension by atleast talking with each other-as long as they were not talking to her. I think I speak for all teenagers when I say that: we need to talk and to be heard.
