  • What is Beacon House?

Beacon House Community Ministry is a civic and socially based organization that supports the youth of the community. Community residents are involved in planning, implementing, and overseeing the work. Beacon House Community Ministry is a long-term, family-focused program that is deeply rooted in the community. BHCM's mission is to empower children and families in enriching their lives and communities through multicultural partnerships.

The goals of BHCM are centered on decreasing juvenile delinquency through the following intervention methods:

    1. Mentoring - Fostering long term friendships that sustain and enhance the lives of youth.

    2. Outreach - Reaching out to the community by providing food, clothes, and furniture when available. Providing organizing assistance on issues that affect residents' lives and community.

    3. Enrichment - Exposure to cultural and educational alternatives.

    4. Recreation - Build self esteem, positive attitudes, team work and integrity in youth through recreational activities such as camps, team sports, etc.

    5. Education - Provide ongoing academic support for children through daycare, tutoring, and close interaction with parents and local schools.

The founder: Donald E. Robinson is an ordained Unitarian Universalist Minister with a special fellowship to provide community-based ministry. He has taught and worked in the inner city for 30 years. He has served as a Community Youth Counselor in the low-income housing communities of Edgewood Terrace, Montana Terrace and Brentwood Village for eleven of the years between 1972 and 1988 and continues to have ties to these communities.

A Message From the Founder - Rev. Robinson

"The work of Beacon House is so important. Although we serve all age groups, our primary focus is to help children.

"Most children in our inner city communities need someone to show them love and caring. They need someone to spend time with them. They need lots of activities. Your contributions will help the Beacon House staff and volunteers to provide the needed programs.

      "Thank you!"

In service to children and families,

      The Reverend Donald E. Robinson
      Founder and President
